De Mooiste van 2016

Vanwege een maandenlang ziekenhuistraject gedurende het voorjaar en de zomer fotografeerde ik in die tijd nauwelijks. Blogger raakte eveneens op de achtergrond. Inmiddels ligt die periode achter me en heb ik de fotografie weer wat opgepakt. Met Blogger doe ik het rustig aan en op Facebook laat ik af en toe foto’s zien.

Hieronder de mooiste foto's van 2016. Soms een paar uit dezelfde maand. Uit andere maanden dus geen foto's. Op pad gaan was geen optie, dus veel is uit eigen tuin of omgeving.

Due to a long period of hospitalization and treatments during the spring and summer I barely photographed at that time. Blogger was pushed into the background. By now that difficult time is behind me. I photograph again, but not as fanatically as before. With Blogger I take it easy and on Facebook I occasionally show pictures.

Here are the best pictures of 2016. Sometimes a few of the same month. From other months no pictures. Travelling was not an option, so many pictures are taken in our own garden or nearby.

In januari bezocht ik regelmatig Vogelpark Avifauna in Alphen aan de Rijn, waar naast dieren ook veel planten te bewonderen zijn.

In January I visited regularly our birdpark Avifauna in Alphen aan de Rijn. Beside the animals there are also many plants to admire.

Eén van de Rode Ibissen ontsnapte in februari uit de doorloopvolière in Avifauna. Een unieke kans om een meer natuurlijke foto te maken. De vogel genoot van zijn vrijheid, maar bleef uiteindelijk toch in het park. Het regelmatig aangeboden voedsel was kennelijk doorslaggevend.

One of the Scarlet Ibises escaped in February from the walk-through aviary in Avifauna. A unique opportunity to shoot a more natural picture. The bird enjoyed his freedom, but stayed eventually in the park. The regularly offered food was obviously decisive.

In maart experimenteerde ik met de witbalans en met "aquarel fotografie". Hoewel ik nog niet tevreden ben met het resultaat laat ik hier toch een foto zien.

In March, I experimented with the white balance on my camera and with "watercolor photography". Although I am not yet satisfied I show you one of those pictures.

Mijn eerste zingende winterkoninkje fotografeerde ik in april. Wat zingen die kleine vogeltjes toch prachtig.

My first singing wren I photographed in April. Those little birds sing so fantastic.

Deze Kievitsbloem fotografeerde ik ook in april. De foto veroverde een plekje in het jaarboek van de Fotobond.

This Fritillary I photographed also in April. The photograph won a complete page in the yearbook of the Dutch Photo Association.

In mei was fotograferen voor mij niet mogelijk en ook in juni bleef het bij een paar foto's. Vlinders en libellen waren er nog nauwelijks. Net als vorig jaar. Ook nu was het voorjaar koud.

Juni was nat en somber. Nog steeds geen echte zomer dus.

In May it was not possible for me to take pictures and also in June my photography was limited to a few pictures. I hardly saw butterflies and dragonflies at that time. Just like last year. Also this year spring was too cold.

June was wet and gloomy. Still no real summer.

In juli verbeterde het weer en zag ik eindelijk wat meer vlinders in de tuin en zelfs wilde bijen. Die laatsten als resultaat van mijn aanpassingen in de beplanting.

In July the weather improved and I finally saw more butterflies in the garden and even solitary bees. Those last probably due to my adjustments in the planting.

Juffers en libellen zag ik dit jaar veel minder dan in voorgaande jaren. Maar in augustus fotografeerde ik toch wat juffers.

Damselflies and dragonflies I saw this year much less than in previous years. But in August I finally photographed some damselflies.

September kwam met warm, zonnig en droog weer. Ondertussen bloeiden de herfstanemonen.

September came with warm, sunny and dry weather. Meanwhile the Japanese anemones bloomed beautifully.

Ook in oktober bleef het zonnig. De nachten waren wel al vaak koud. Een goede combinatie om de bomen mooi te laten kleuren.

Also in October it remained sunny. The nights were quite often cold. A good combination for nature to paint the leaves of the trees with spectacular colors.

In november werd onze keuken vernieuwd. Met mij ging het ondertussen beter, maar veel tijd om te fotograferen was er dus weer niet. Ik maakte maar een paar foto's in die maand.

In November our kitchen was renovated. Although I felt better in the meantime, there was again little time to photograph. I only took a few photos in that month.

Hulst / Holly (Ilex aquifolium)

Voor de vogels liggen er altijd lekkere hapjes op de tuintafel klaar. De appels zijn bij de spreeuwen erg populair. Kilo's heb ik al voor ze neergelegd. Volgens de Vogelbescherming blijkt het in Nederland niet zo goed met ze te gaan, dus hoop ik zo mijn steentje bij te dragen om ze de winter door te helpen.

For the birds there are always snacks on the garden table. The apples are very popular with the starlings. I already have fed them kilos. According to the RSPB it doesn't go well with them in the Netherlands, so I hope to contribute to help them through the winter.

Tot slot sluit ik dit blog af met een nieuwjaarswens om 2017 in te luiden. Ik heb hier één van mijn klaproosfoto's voor gebruikt. Een bloem die ik prachtig vind.

Vrij in gevangenschap

An English version after the second picture

Met mijn jaarkaart bezoek ik regelmatig vogelpark Avifauna. Meestal op uren waarin ik vermoed niet veel andere bezoekers tegen te komen. Veel fotografen kiezen dezelfde uurtjes en het is dan ook vaak een onderonsje.

Het gedeelte rond de grote vijver -waar de dieren los rond lopen- is mijn favoriete plek. Meestal zitten er ook wilde vogels die het wel makkelijk vinden om mee te eten uit de grote pot. 

Vaak zit ik laag tussen de dieren te fotograferen, terwijl zij gewoon doorgaan met hun bezigheden. Ideaal dus. Op één zo’n dag sta ik naar (en tussen) de roodhalsganzen te kijken als ik plotseling wat tegen mijn enkel voel duwen. Bij mijn voeten staat een roodhalsgans me aan te kijken om vervolgens nog snel even in mijn broekspijp te pikken. Zeker een rot humeur, denk ik nog. 

Een paar weken later overkomt me hetzelfde als ik de Maki’s fotografeer. In dat deel lopen ook de Parelhoenders. Terwijl ik even niet oplet begint één van hen in mijn broekspijp te pikken. Ik doe een stap opzij. Het maakt geen indruk. De hoender gaat gewoon door. Kennelijk lijkt mijn broekspijp op een kennis van ze waar ze een hekel aan hebben. Uiteindelijk wint de vogel en stap ik maar op. Ik hoop maar dat ze me de volgende keer niet meer herkennen.

Free in captivity

With my annual season ticket I regularly visit the Avifauna bird park. Usually at hours when I suppose not to encounter many other visitors. More photographers choose the same hours and often it is a social gathering.

The area around the large pond -where you can walk freely amongst the animals- is my favorite place. Usually there are also ‘lazy’ wild birds that join the park birds during feeding time. 

Because I often crouch between the animals while I photograph they continue their activities without paying attention to me. Perfect! On one of such days when I stay between the red-breasted geese to watch and photograph them, I suddenly feel something push against my ankle. At my feet is a red-breasted goose looking at me and quickly he pecks in my leg. Maybe he's in a bad mood, I think.

A few weeks later, the same happens when I photograph the ring-tailed lemurs. In this part of the park are also Guineafowls. While I don't pay attention one of them begins to peck in my leg. I step aside. It doesn't impress him. The Guineafowl continues. Apparently my trousers looks like an acquaintance of them that they don't like. At the end the bird wins and I go away. I hope they won’t recognize me next time.

Het zal jullie vast al opgevallen zijn dat ik de laatste tijd wat minder blogs plaats. Ik heb besloten het wat rustiger aan te doen om ook tijd over te houden voor andere hobby's. Zo heb ik afgelopen zondag met een 800 man tellend koor meegezongen in een concert. Een geweldige ervaring. Maar ook daarvoor heb je vooraf veel studietijd nodig. Toch jammer dat een dag maar 24 uur heeft. Ik blijf jullie volgen, maar in een iets ander tempo.

Probably you'll already have noticed that I place less posts lately. I decided to slow down a bit to leave also time for other hobbies. Last sunday, for example, I sung in a concert in a choir of 800 hundred singers. An amazing experience. But it took a lot of study time in advance. Too bad that a day only have 24 hours. I keep following your blogs, but in a slightly slower pace.

De mooiste van 2015

Wat later dan anders toch ook van mij nog de mooiste van 2015.

Het wilde maar niet "winteren" in de winter van 2014-2015. Mist, regen, wind en grijs weer kregen we met gulle hand en maar af en toe een beetje vorst. Voor januari koos ik een zwart/witte mistfoto, die nooit in het blog terecht is gekomen, maar wel op een expositie heeft gehangen.

Winter didn't really arrive in 2014-2015. Fog, rain, wind and gray weather were generously spread over our country, but frost was rare. Therefore I chose for January a black and white mist photo, which I never showed in a post, but recently it has been, however, part of an exhibition. 

Terwijl de sneeuwklokjes al bloeiden kwam er dan toch een beetje vorst. Voor februari een van de weinige winterfoto's.

While the snowdrops already bloomed we were treated to a little bit of frost. For February one of my few winter photos.

Al een paar jaar was ik van plan een serie foto's van de Anemone blanda te maken. Maar voordat ik eraan toe kwam, waren ze meestal al weer uitgebloeid. In 2015 kwam het er dan toch van. Voor maart een foto uit dat project.

For a couple of years I intended to make a series of the Anemone blanda. But before I had done that, they already had finished blooming. In 2015 I managed to take photos in time. For March, a photo from that project.

In april werden we verrast door bloeiende bollenvelden die, zonder dat we het gemerkt hadden, vlak bij ons huis waren ingeplant in een van de anders zo groene weilanden. Een prachtige gelegenheid om me er fotografisch helemaal uit te leven.

In April we were surprised by flowering bulb fields near our house. Without noticing it, bulbs had been planted in one of the usually green meadows. For me a wonderful opportunity to enjoy photographing to the fullest.

In mei bloeiden veel planten die allemaal op mijn lijstje stonden om er nog eens uitvoerig aandacht aan te besteden. Nadeel was wel dat ze ook allemaal tegelijk uitgebloeid waren, voordat dat gebeurd was. Een van die bloemen was het Gebroken Hartje (Dicentra spectabilis).

In May many plants that flourished were all on my wish list for a detailed photo shoot. The disadvantage of blooming in the same period is that they had finished flowering at the same time as well. One of these flowers was the Bleeding heart (Dicentra spectabilis).

Juni is een moeilijke maand om een favoriet te kiezen. Ik heb er al snel 5. Na lang twijfelen kies ik mijn klaprozen, vooral ook omdat dat lievelingsbloemen van me zijn.

June was a difficult month to choose a favorite. Soon I already had choosen 5. Finally I choose my poppies, especially because they are amongst my favorite flowers.

Maar omdat ik niets van november heb smokkel ik er in juni eentje bij van de Koningsvaren.

But because I have no picture for November I add for June an extra one of the Royal fern. 

Juli is ook al zo'n moeilijke maand. Alles staat in bloei, maar met de vlinders en libellen wil het bij mij in de buurt nog niet erg lukken. Waar blijven ze toch? Aardhommels zijn er gelukkig wel.

July is also a difficult month to choose. All nature is in bloom, but there are little butterflies and dragonflies. Where are they? Luckely there are bumblebees.

Eindelijk zie ik in augustus wat meer libellen en vlinders. Rode heidelibellen zitten elk jaar wel in mijn tuin en in augustus is het zover. Juffers waren er al een poosje.

Finally I see in August more dragonflies and butterflies. Every year I have Common darters in my garden. For August a dragonfly. 

Terwijl september toch al bijna het eind van de zomer betekent, zijn er nog steeds veel vlinders. Mijn tuin is door de wijziging van de beplanting ondertussen een echte vlindertuin geworden waar ik in 2015 zo'n 20 verschillende soorten zag.

While September already means almost the end of summer, there are still many butterflies. In the meantime my garden has become -through the modification of the plants- a real butterfly garden where I saw in 2015 about 20 different species.

In oktober zijn de spinnenwebben in de tuin niet meer te tellen. Overal hangen ze, ook over de paden. Ondanks het ongemak vind ik ze prachtig om te zien, vooral als het gemist heeft. Het valt nog niet mee om ze wat artistieker te fotograferen.

In October numerous spider webs decorated my garden. They are everywhere, also across the paths. Despite the discomfort I find them beautiful to look at, especially when the fog changes them in little pieces of art. It's not easy to photograph them more artistic.

November breekt aan. Een maand waarin ik het druk had met andere dingen en niet fotografeerde. In december maakten mijn man en ik een uitstapje naar Zuidlaren om daar het China Light Festival te bezoeken. Als bloemenfotografe houd ik het ook hier bij een "bloemenfoto".

November comes. A month when I was busy with other things. My camera stays in de closet. In December my husband and I made a trip to Zuidlaren -a small place in the north of the Netherlands- to visit the China Light Festival. As photographer of flowers I end this post with a "flower picture", made on the Festival.

Kerstproject en expositie

Al een tijd heb ik geen nieuw blog meer geplaatst. Toch heb ik wel gefotografeerd, maar de tijd ontbrak om er iets mee te doen. En misschien was ik ook wel een beetje blog- en facebook-moe.

Een paar maanden geleden kreeg ik de vraag of ik met een paar foto’s mee wilde werken aan een expositie in november. Nu had ik voor een fotocursus mijn werk wel al afgedrukt en in passe-partouts moeten presenteren, maar mooie lijsten had ik niet. Bovendien vroeg ik mij af hoe groot een afdruk moest zijn voor een expositie in een behoorlijk grote ruimte.

Helaas was de winkel waar ik vaak passe-partouts laat maken verdwenen onder de kranen van het brugongeluk in Alphen aan de Rijn. Dus moest ik op zoek naar een ander. Uiteindelijk had ik alles bedacht en gekocht.

Naast “Mist foto’s” in zwart/wit heb ik met “Kerst-foto’s” uit mijn serie “Broken” meegedaan. Kerstballen, die gevallen zijn bij het ophangen of uit de kerstboom halen, fotografeer ik soms voordat ik ze weggooi. Ik ben een jaar geleden ook al eens met dit kerstproject bezig geweest. Het blijft leuk om te doen. Hieronder een foto van de expositie en een aantal foto’s uit de Kerstserie.

For some time I haven't posted a new blog. Not because I didn’t take pictures. I still did, but there simply was not enough time to write a post. And maybe I was a little Blog-, and Facebook-weary.

A few months ago I was asked to participate in a November exhibition with some of my photos. For a photography course I already had my work printed and presented in passe-partouts, but I had never showed them in frames. Moreover, I wondered how large a print had to be for an exhibition in a fairly large room.

Unfortunately, the shop where I often buy my passe-partouts had disappeared under two cranes in a terrible accident whereby the cranes and a part of a bridge felt on many houses. Luckely there were no human casualties, but the material damage was enourmous. So I had to find a different shop. In the end I had everything figured out and bought.

Besides "Mist photos" in black and white I have participated with "Christmas pictures" from my series “Broken”. While decorating the Christmas tree there are every year baubles that fall to pieces. Often the most beautiful ones. Sometimes I photograph them before I throw them away.

On fragile wings

An English version after the third picture

De afgelopen 2 jaar heb ik de planten in mijn tuin (mijn andere hobby) vervangen door planten die bijen en vlinders aantrekken. Het was zoeken en afwegen omdat ik hetzelfde kleurenschema (roze, paars, blauw en wit) wilde houden. Veel planten stellen dusdanige eisen aan hun standplaats (waaraan ik niet altijd kan voldoen) dat ze ongeschikt werden voor mijn tuin.

Mijn tuin ligt aan de buitenkant van het dorp en grenst aan de polder. Bij de vlindertelling in 2014 telde ik 7 verschillende soorten. Ik was toen al een jaar bezig met het aanpassen van de tuin. Dit jaar (2015) telde ik bij de telling 12 soorten en daarna zag ik er nog meer. Natuurlijk fotografeerde ik ze ook. Hieronder een eerste selectie. Niet alle foto's zijn dit jaar gemaakt, maar het gaat hier om de vlinders uit mijn tuin.

De laatste tijd zie ik, naast de vele soorten hommels, zelfs wilde bijen in de tuin. Ook erg leuk. Klaar ben ik met de tuin nog niet, maar het resultaat vind ik tot nu toe niet slecht.

The last 2 years I have replaced the plants in my garden (my other hobby) by plants that attract bees and butterflies. I first had to do a lot of research because I wanted to keep the same color scheme (pink, purple, blue and white). Many plants were not suitable because they make special demands on their location, soil and humidity (I could not meet all their needs).  

My garden lies on the outside of the village and is bordered by the polder. During the National Butterfly Count  I counted in 2014 seven different butterfly species. At that moment I already had been working for a year on adapting the garden. This year (2015) I counted 12 species during the Butterfly Count and still more later on. Of course I photographed them. Here is a first selection.

Lately I see, besides the many species of bumblebees, even wild bees in the garden. Also very nice. I'm not done with the garden yet, but I think the result so far is not bad.
